Sortcerer

Privacy Policy

Last updated October 2026

Arkley Interactive LLC (“we,” “our,” or “us”) makes Sortcerer, a Mac app that sorts and renames files according to rules you write (the “App”). This policy explains what the App does with your information. It covers the App specifically; for how our website handles information, see our company Privacy Policy. Reach us at sortcerer_support@arkleyinteractive.com with questions or to exercise any of the rights below.

1. The Short Version

Sortcerer works on your Mac and keeps your files and rules there. It has no accounts, no advertising, no analytics, and no crash reporting. The only things it contacts the internet for are checking your license and looking for updates, described in Section 3.

2. What Stays on Your Mac

  • Your files: To decide what to do with a file, Sortcerer reads its name, type, and dates, and, for rules that look inside files, the text of PDFs and plain-text files. Scanned PDFs are read with text recognition built into macOS, on your Mac. This content is processed locally and is never sent to us or anyone else; the App does not save it.
  • Your rules and settings: Stored in your user account’s Application Support folder (Sortcerer) and in the App’s preferences. A small status file there lists any files the App could not process and why.
  • Your license record: If you activate a license, a small file in the same folder holds your license key, its masked form, an activation ID, the date you bought it, and when it was last checked.
  • Logs: The background service writes activity logs on your Mac (in ~/Library/Logs/Sortcerer and the macOS system log). They can include the names and locations of files it processed. They never leave your Mac.

3. What Leaves Your Mac

  • License activation and checks (Polar): When you enter a license key, and again when you open the App if a day or more has passed, it sends the key and, when you activate, your Mac’s name (so you can recognize that Mac) to our payment and licensing provider, Polar. Polar also sees your IP address, as any website does. This is how a license is confirmed and limited to your Macs; “Deactivate this Mac” in License Info frees it. The free version never contacts Polar.
  • Update checks: When update checks are on (the App asks you the first time), it requests our update feed from arkleyinteractive.com, which is hosted on Google Firebase Hosting. That request reveals your IP address and the App’s name and version, as any web request does. We do not turn on the optional system profile that the updater could send.

Sortcerer does not send the contents or names of your files, your rules, or how you use the App anywhere.

4. When You Buy

Purchases are handled by Polar, which acts as the seller of record. Polar collects your payment details, name, email address, and billing address under its own privacy policy; we never receive your card number. We receive your name, email address, and billing country or address, and your license key, so we can deliver your license, give you support, and keep tax and accounting records. We also keep a private backup of license keys and the email addresses they were issued to, so we can restore your license if the payment service has a problem.

5. Support Emails

If you email us, we receive what you include, such as your name, email address, and any details you share. We use it only to help you and to keep a record of the conversation.

6. How We Use Information

We use purchase and license information to provide and check your license, deliver updates, answer support requests, process refunds, and meet tax and legal obligations. We do not sell your information or use it for advertising.

7. Retention

We keep purchase and license records for as long as your license is valid and for as long afterward as tax, accounting, or legal rules require. Support emails are kept as long as needed to help you. Everything the App stores on your Mac stays there until you remove it: quit Sortcerer, deactivate your license, delete the App, and delete its Sortcerer folder in Application Support.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask us to send you a copy of the information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or limit how we use it. Email sortcerer_support@arkleyinteractive.com from the address you bought with and we’ll respond; we may need to confirm it’s you first. We may need to keep some records, such as proof of purchase, where the law requires it, and deleting a purchase record ends your license. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled a request, you can raise it with the data protection regulator in your country.

9. Security

The App stores its data in your user account’s standard locations on your Mac and relies on macOS’s protections for them. Our payment and licensing provider secures purchase data. No system is perfectly secure, so keep your Mac and your license key private.

10. Children’s Privacy

Sortcerer isn’t directed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has bought a license, email us and we’ll delete the record.

11. Changes to This Policy

If the App’s behavior changes in a way that affects your information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. The App never transmits more than this page describes without our changing this page first.
